  • Weekend Update May 11-12 Rain rain stay away.  It has been a tough spring weather wise this season and fortunately enough it stayed away for just enough time to get at least one day of games in.  We continue to have to reschedule matches and have teams playing all over the place, but with the season winding down, and our final tournament just a head hopefully the sun will shine and the fields will stay playable!   BRSL teams:   U11B NRU–FC Star 2:1   U12 B NRU-Roanoke Star 0:3       Skyline teams:   U11G NRU – Augusta FC 0:4 Despite best efforts, our girls come short 0:4 against a fast and aggressive AFC squad. Agapi Halkidis made two fantastic saves in the second ...

  • Weekend Update May 4-5 The rain stayed away just long enough for us to get most of our matches in over the weekend.  NRU colors stretched all over the state with our teams playing anywhere from local league games to State Cup matches in VA Beach and northern Virginia.    BRSL teams: U11G NRU-CSC Strikers 2:3 The U11 Girls went down 2-0 in the first half and the opponents quickly got a third at the start of the second half but the girls battled back and dominated the final 15 minutes of the game. They had a lot of chances during that time and Ellie Gresh and Grace Sallee both found the back of the net within the final 10 minutes. Given ...

  • U12 Boys Advance to Elite 8 in State Cup! Congratulations to the U12 Boys Skyline Team who won their second round game of the VYSA State Cup tournament this weekend to advance to the Elite 8.  NRU traveled to Ashburn on Saturday to take on the ODFC Force. NRU did a great job of controlling the game, and dominated play early. About 15 minutes in, Champ Humphreys scored the first goal by dribbling until he worked the ball in close and hit a hard right foot into the net. ODFC tied the game on a close-in shot late in the first half. NRU dominated much of the second half, but the score stayed tied for most of the second half. NRU’s defensive back line of Stu Forsman ...

  • Weekend Update April 27-28 BRSL teams: U11G NRU-Salem Sabres 4:1  After a fairly evenly matched first half, NRU took control in the second half and rolled to a pretty comfortable 4-1 win. Scoring was pretty even with NRU's 4 goals spread amongst 3 different players. The girls’ goals came from a variety of ways, breakaway, connecting through the box, put back off of a fumbled save, and a solid strike. The opponents attacking line was a lot faster than what the girls have seen all season but the team did a great job of having a 2nd defender ready and, after talking about it at halftime, pretty much neutralized the Sabres’ speed in the attack. Both goal keepers saw ...

  • Players of the Week April 20-21 This week’s Player of the Week awards go to Eliza Stowe of the U13 Girls and Mehmet Dilek of the U11 Boys Skyline team.  Eliza's extra work at the goalkeeper position is starting to show and pay dividends for the NRU U13 Girls, having allowed only two goals in the four Skyline matches to date.  Her training over the winter and early spring has helped her improve tremendously at the goalkeeper position, and her team-first attitude has always drawn raves reviews from coaches and teammates alike.  Mehmet had a hat trick this weekend against CVU.  His goals helped the boys secure a 7-1 in on the weekend.  Congrats to the both of them.

  • Weekend Update April 20-21 A great weekend for soccer all around!  We had teams playing in State Cup once again as well as local rivalries.  It was a great weekend for NRU once again as we came away with some fantastic results!BRSL teams: U11G NRU-Radford SC 1:0 The U11 Girls only had 7 players due to last minute illnesses and family commitments, so played down one player for the entire game. Despite this, the girls came away with a 1-0 victory. The team played well, attacking both from the back and along the flanks. There were a lot of great plays, both off the dribble and through combination play, to beat the defense down the line, finishing it off with ...
