NRUSA Travel Soccer Program
The Travel Program of the New River United Soccer Association ("NRUSA") serves youth soccer players
that wish a more competitive program than that found in the area's recreational programs.

Players from around the New River Valley and neighboring areas are invited to participate in tryouts.
Tryouts are held annually in the late spring or early summer to determine the makeup of teams for the
following fall and spring seasons. The Program offers advanced individual training and team training
utilizing paid soccer coaches and area soccer professionals. Individual and team development is
emphasized in an environment that strives to develop a love for the game of soccer under the rules
of good sportsmanship. The Program also employs a "Director of Coaching" whose primary responsibility
is to see that the level of coaching is appropriate for the age being coached and that team coaches
are proficient for the age with which they are involved.
Most of our existing teams train at least
two times per week for a couple of hours and compete in matches on the weekend. Travel teams are
directed by the guidelines provided by the NRUSA. By FIFA regulations, team roster size is limited
to a maximum of 18 players (14 for U9/U10 teams). However, to promote adequate playing time for all members,
most NRUSA travel teams accept fewer players than the maximum number allowed. Travel teams compete under
the auspices of the Skyline League of which the NRUSA is a member. Other Skyline League clubs are Augusta Futbol Club,
Central Virginia United, Culpeper Soccer Association, Fluvanna Youth Soccer Association, Greene Futbol Club,
Lexington Soccer Club, Louisa Area Soccer Association, Madison Soccer, Nelson Express Travel Soccer,
New River United Soccer Association, Orange County Parks and Recreation, Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer,
Shenandoah County Soccer League, Shenandoah Valley United, Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle, and
Thunder FC.
Travel Program Costs
There is no "standard" cost associated with participating in the NRUSA. Team budgets are based on the
level of activities the teams choose to undertake. Some teams conduct their own fund raising activities.
Typically, team assessments for NRUSA and Skline League dues, coaching, tournament entry fees (if desired) and
general team supplies range from $200- $400 per family per season. This amount does not cover individual
family travel expenses (transportation, food & lodging). The NRUSA does provide limited scholarships to
teams to assist members who have difficulty with these costs. The NRUSA firmly believes that no one should
miss out on the opportunity to play soccer because of financial concerns.
